How do online spaces show a country’s dependency on and consumption of American culture and knowledge?

Naver and Daum are South Korea’s local portals that curate news and information on various fields of trend and transmit data to users through their small images and headlines. These portals serve as South Koreans’ first window to getting any information online, show individual interests in various sectors, and, further, the nature of Korean society (Kim, 2022). According to the annual KOSIS Korean Statistical Information Service survey, 93% of our country’s population used the internet in 2022. 62.4% of these internet users in South Korea use Naver, 27.5% use Google, and 4.7% use Daum.[1] How do these local online platforms show South Korea’s dependency on and consumption of American culture and knowledge?
